The NEED to Be Right

I can think of a few people in my life who always have to be right. When I have a conversation with them, I get the feeling that nothing I say or do is right and any space between our opinions means that I’m wrong.

While these conversations usually make me want to bang my head against a wall, I recently came to a huge realization.

The reason I get so frustrated talking to someone who always needs to be right is because I always need to be right too!

When I saw those three fingers pointing backward, it was a humbling experience and though it’s been challenging, I try to curb my urge to disprove others and validate myself. Yep, people are going to have different opinions, but that’s life. And just because they are different doesn’t mean that one is right and one is wrong. So now I let others be right. Because they are. Not because I’m wrong, but because we are both right.

And when I have to choose between being right and being kind, I choose kind. Because then I’m right.

Who in your life always has to be right? Where are those three fingers pointing back?

When you have to choose between being right and being kind, what do you choose?
