The Enneagram is a powerful personality system that helps you understand yourself and others by revealing patterns in behaviour, thoughts, actions, and emotions. It shows you WHO you are, WHY you do what you do, and HOW to grow into a better version of yourself, like a map. 

Each of the 9 Enneagram personality patterns (named Type 1 through Type 9) emerge from and form around a particular set of deep motivations: a core desire and a core fear - something you strive for and something you avoid. Although, you may relate to most or all of the desires and fears, there’s going to be a set that is at your core that’s driving you.

Can you identify which core desire and core fear pair PREDOMINANTLY motivates you?

Type 1   Desire: To be good/right.

              Fear: Being bad/wrong.

Type 2   Desire: To be selfless/kind.

              Fear: Being selfish/unkind.

Type 3   Desire: To be valuable/admired.

              Fear: Not being valued/admired.

Type 4   Desire: To be authentic/uniquely themselves.

              Fear: Not having an identity/having no significance.

Type 5   Desire: To be capable/competent.

              Fear: Being incapable/incompetent.

Type 6   Desire: To be supported/secure.

              Fear: Being without support or guidance/insecurity.

Type 7   Desire: To be content/satisfied.

              Fear: Being deprived/trapped in (emotional) pain

Type 8   Desire: To be independent/protect themselves

              Fear: Being controlled/being harmed

Type 9:   Desire: To be at peace/harmonious

              Fear: Separation/loss/conflict

The Enneagram is different than other personality systems in that it doesn’t actually “type” you, it shows you the pattern you tend to follow. It also doesn’t only consider the behaviour you do, but highlights the REASON behind your behaviour. For example, all of the 9 Enneagram types display the behaviour of ‘helping others’, but the person with Type 1 personality might help others because it is the right thing to do, and the person with the Type 2 personality might help others because they will be rewarded with a “thank you”.

When you know which pattern you predominantly follow, you gain insight into:

    • your most challenging inner obstacles. These obstacles may be unknown to you now, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t influencing your life, tripping you up, and contributing to your stress. Learn what to be on the lookout for and how to move past these obstacles.
    • your natural authentic personality. You have natural intuitions and tendencies. Discover how to put them to the best use and bring your beautiful gifts to the ones you love and to the world.
