What to do With Your Baggage

I have to tell you something. And this may come as a complete surprise to you. Are you ready?

I am not perfect.

I know, I know, it’s a shocker.

Okay, you might not be entirely surprised by this. But I think it is all too common that you compare yourself to someone else, maybe a friend, a neighbour, a sibling, a co-worker, even a celebrity and think that they have their life together. Well here’s something to put your mind at ease. They don’t.

No one does. You are not alone in your messy, muddy life. Everyone has something going on. Everyone has baggage. It’s what you do with that baggage that matters.

I have baggage. I have things in my life that I’m not proud of, mistakes I’ve made, stressors I’ve faced, battles I’ve lost. I am shy and sensitive. I have a temper like a rocket. I get angry. Like, really angry. I am addicted to chocolate and I watch a bit too much Netflix. I am passionate about pretty much anything and I can tie myself in a knot trying to explore whatever thing I’m passionate about that week. I know I have weaknesses. I know I’m covered in mud.

You are covered in mud too. Get over it. Quit comparing yourself to someone who has put some clean clothes over top of their muddy ones.

Quit trying to be someone else. For two reasons: 1) You’re going to suck at it. You will never be good at being someone else. Mostly because you are not them. 2) They are no better than you.

Quit trying to make yourself something you’re not. And make the most of who you are.

Here’s to Conquering Stress,
The Stress Experts
P.S. Right about now, you might be wondering, “Um, how can you call yourself a stress expert when you just admitted all your weaknesses?” Put it this way. If you were trudging through waist-deep mud, would you rather be cheered on by the sparkly-clean person on the sidelines, or the person in the mud beside you, who is smiling and laughing through her muddy face? Would you trust a mud expert who had never been through the mud?
